All personal information supplied by you will be treated in confidence by us and will not be disclosed to any third parties except where your consent has been received or where permitted by law. In order to provide you with products and services this information will be held in our data systems or the data systems of our agents or subcontractors.
We may pass your personal information to other companies for processing on its behalf. Some of these companies may be based outside the European Economic Area in countries which may not have laws to protect your personal information, but in all cases the Group will ensure that it is kept securely and only used for the purposes for which you provided it. Details of the companies and countries involved can be provided to you on request.
We would also like to keep you informed (by telephone, post or e-mail) of selected products and services available from us and our carefully chosen suppliers. If your personal details changes or you would prefer not to receive this information from us please let us know when you contact us.
As part of the process of providing you with the product or service requested, we may undertake certain checks or exchange information with third parties through various databases.
Where you purchase car insurance from us, your policy details will be added to the Motor Insurance Database (MID), run by the Motor Insurers’ Information Centre (MIIC). MID data may be used by the DVLA and DVLNI for the purpose of Electronic Vehicle Licensing and by the Police for the purposes of establishing whether a driver’s use of the vehicle is likely to be covered by a motor insurance policy and/or for preventing and detecting crime. If you are involved in an accident (in the UK or abroad), other UK insurers, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau and MIIC may search the MID to obtain relevant policy information. Persons with a valid claim in respect of a road traffic accident (including citizens of other countries) may also obtain relevant information which is held on the MID. You can find out more about this from us or at www.miic.org.uk.
As part of the process for underwriting general insurance products we may check with a licensed credit-referencing agency and a record of this search will be made. Also, for life and investment business we may exchange information with other insurers or management companies through various databases to help us check information provided and also to prevent fraud.
